Connection
Relying on your WiFi internet network at home, the camera is set up to have a wireless direct video transmission to your WiFi modem router - such as your BT Smart Hub, Sky Q Hub.
This is very straightforward to do and is assisted through using a free APP on your mobile device.
Once the camera is connected you will be able to view anywhere as long as the viewing device is connected to the internet.
WiFi Range
To connect your camera to WiFi, you need to ensure you have a strong WiFi signal where the camera is placed. An easy quick way to determine this is to use an existing WiFi-connected device (such as a mobile phone) and see if the signal is still present in the area. If there is no WiFi signal in the area, you can use a WiFi Repeater/booster. This will extend your WiFi range and coverage.
Once the camera is connected you will be able to view anywhere as long as the viewing device is connected to the internet.
Should WiFi not be accessible at the site, a cable can be used which will connect between the camera and the modem/router box directly through an ethernet cable. Cables are sold separately and can be added at a later date. Varying in length, this can be anything from 5m, to 50m and onwards.
Pre-planning
You will need to check the site where you plan to install the wireless camera together with the bird box if a WiFi network is present. An easy quick way to determine this is to use an existing WiFi connected device and see if the signal is still present in the area.

Viewing
Tablet/SmartPhone
The APP is free and can be downloaded for iOS and Android devices.
PC/MAC
Ready to be viewed directly on a PC. We are currently working on a MAC version.
TV/Monitor
With an NVR box, you can further watch directly on your TV. The box simply connects to your WiFi network and plugs into the back of your TV.
You will be able to watch live and record single or several cameras. This is sold separately. See here for further details.
Powering the WiFi Bird Box Camera
Although the WiFi camera is wireless, it will need to have an external power supply.
As with all our small nest box cameras, it is not possible to accommodate a battery within the camera. Changing the battery will result in the disturbance of a bird's nest, and if one were to be enclosed within a camera's housing we've worked out that in the best scenario a couple of days of continuous usage would be achievable.
A mains power supply unit is included with the camera kit which is approximately 1m in length. This is a built-in transformer plug stepping down to a low 12V voltage. A power extension cable is supplied which can further be used to connect the power plug and the camera itself. If there is a nearby mains power source such as within a local shed/garage this would be ideal.
Battery packs are available separately. This is a 12V camera and will need a 12V battery pack. Various sizes are available allowing the camera to operate from a few hours to days. A wireless remote switch is also available to control the on/off. Solar panel systems are also available. Our remote power source supplies can be found here.
Production Versions
We have the standard HD resolution, and the full 1080p HD version available.

Our History with WiFi Wildlife Cameras
We have dealt with WiFi cameras for numerous years and have supplied bespoke WiFi systems in the past. We have developed this product over a number of years from the setup, ease of installation, and software configuration. In the past, this has been fairly complicated. It has now been made easy to do, together with the support of illustrated step-by-step instructions, and the additional development of product extensions anything from using other software packages, and electronic supplies.
FAQ
Power Cable Length
The supplied length is 5m which can be extended to a maximum of 100m with the standard power supply unit.
Extension cables are available separately which will plug directly to the end of the single existing cable.
Powering the Camera
As with all electrical devices, power is required and with the majority of nest box cameras, this would be external.
This is due to the wireless power consumption being quite high, and small batteries within the camera's body would only last for a few hours.
A 20m power extension cable is supplied to run the power source away from the nesting source (e.g. a nearby shed or to the bottom of a tree) to a 12V battery or to the supplied mains power plug. The power cable can be extended.
The wireless aspect refers to the wireless transmission of video and audio which is relayed back to the receiver. For some users, they may refer to this to as semi wireless.
Rechargeable power banks in different sizes with different usage times are available separately. The option of solar panel systems is also available for a complete autonomous setup. The location of installation of these would be away from the nest box for instance at the base of a tree to prevent any disturbance to the nesting site.
Wireless System Type
This is a digital WiFi bird box wireless system which means it does not suffer from wireless interference unlike analogue wireless systems and is ten times more powerful.
As with all wireless devices, the range would normally drastically reduce with obstructions in particular walls. For this setup, all you need to ensure is that there is a WiFi wireless connection available on site.
The wireless ranges can be pushed to around 250m, and our bespoke systems can go into kilometers if required.
Additional Wireless Cameras
This WiFi setup is cable of taking further cameras, and we suggest not more than 10 WiFi nest box cameras due to likely network constraints typically found with most users. The APP offers the simple add feature when adding further WiFi bird box cameras.
TV/Computer/Remote Connection
The system offers the standard connection which plugs directly into the WiFi network. The WiFi nest box camera will need to be situated within the WiFi network area in order for the transmission to work.
To check whether WiFi is present at the nesting site, a simple check can be made using a mobile device (phone/tablet) on-site to see if the wireless connection is present.
WiFi extenders/repeaters can be used to extend the existing WiFi range.
The camera does facilitate the option of having a wired connection directly to a modem/router socket.
The free APP supplied can be downloaded on multiple Android/iOS devices for streaming live footage.
Live footage can be viewed through a browser and can be achieved with some TVs.
With port forwarding settings it is further possible to stream directly onto a website, and also within a local network for sharing.
Recording options are included with the APP, and can further be configured directly on a PC/MAC.
